We are looking for top-talents and experienced leaders with an exceptional drive and passion for global green transformation, business promotion, innovation, and with a strong engagement to foster long-term strategic relationships between Sweden and the U.S.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of building up a new “Team Sweden” initiative in the U.S. – with the purpose to strengthen the position of Sweden as a key partner in the U.S.’ green transition and to promote trade, investments, and R&I collaborations between the two countries.

Swedish innovation environments, hubs and companies represent innovation, quality, and reliability, and are the frontrunners for sustainability. The U.S.-Sweden Green Transition Initiative aims at bringing Swedish solutions, innovation ecosystem and companies to the world’s largest economy, and supporting in driving business development and fostering partnerships and collaborations. It also intends to connect the ecosystems for green innovation on both sides of the Atlantic.

As part of the U.S.-Sweden Green Transition Initiative’s core team, you will work to position Sweden as a key partner for sustainable and innovative solutions to accelerate the green transformation of the U.S. energy and industry sectors:

  • Promote Swedish solutions for a more sustainable world

The team is expected to work closely with the Swedish ecosystem of experts, researchers, and companies in promotional initiatives and public events across the U.S. It should also contribute to mobilizing the extended network of Team Sweden such as innovation hubs and accelerators, to position Sweden in specific mega-deals, partnerships, and strategic collaborations and projects.

  • Accelerate collaboration within research and innovation

The team will promote collaboration between regional or thematic innovation ecosystems for green innovation on both sides of the Atlantic. The team will also enable ongoing innovation initiatives to connect to both the promotion of Swedish solutions in the U.S. and U.S. investments to Sweden.

  • Provide support to SMEs entering the US-market

The team should also establish structures to support market entry of Swedish SMEs including establish a US-Swedish Green Accelerator program, present business opportunities in a unified package, and provide guidance to the SMEs.

  • Promote Sweden as an attractive investment destination for green solutions

The team will promote Sweden as an attractive investment destination by coordinating efforts to attract innovative investments and to form strategic early pilot projects, collaborations and real-life demonstrators. This will be done in close collaboration with innovation hubs, accelerators/incubators, research, academia, private sector and government agencies. In addition, the team will identify events and conferences as well as plan delegation trips and coordinate amongst organizations, ecosystems, and local Swedish agencies.

The workstreams include:

  • Position Sweden through joint consortiums to target mega-deals by identifying business opportunities and positioning Swedish offerings and added value through being an attractive innovation partner to key stakeholders
  • Establish SME support structures and an accelerator program by offering dedicated market entry support through accelerators and connection through Swedish incubators and hubs
  • Attract green investments to Sweden by establishing innovative collaborations that lead to talent attraction and investments, plans for delegations, lead generation, and attraction of capital with private investment sector
  • Expand network and organize events and delegations in the U.S. by mobilizing Team Sweden actors to engage with stakeholders at relevant forums ‘
  • Drive the establishment of real-life system demonstrators as well as early-stage pilot projects and collaborations with close connection to R&I activities and private sector
  • Accelerate green-tech innovation and research collaboration by initiating co-creation process with relevant Swedish and U.S. actors and partnerships across Team Sweden
  • Provide continuous market research and analytics for insights to relevant stakeholders
  • Establish centralized communication and aligned marketing to consolidate Sweden’s positioning in the U.S.

You will operate in a dynamic and highly international environment where your role is to support and coordinate across organizational and geographical boundaries – with external stakeholders and within Team Sweden – including the Embassy, Consulates, Business Sweden, Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency, the Chambers of Commerce, and other relevant agencies.

Organization

In this role, you will report to the initiative’s Team Lead. You will be based in Washington D.C., with expected travel (mainly in the US) up to 1 week per month.

Responsibilities

  • Support and drive forward the Green Transition Initiative with your teammates in key workstreams (as based on experience and expertise)

  • Drive collaboration between US and Swedish companies and organizations to promote joint innovation and commercial partnerships

  • Promote Swedish areas of strength, competencies, technologies, products, and solutions in the U.S.

  • Collaborate with Team Sweden members (mainly Vinnova, The Swedish Energy Agency, Business Sweden, the Swedish Embassy in Washington DC) on “Green Initiatives” to increase the leverage on existing activities from respective organizations and promote collaboration where policy, R&I and commercial activities can support each other

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a new team member responsible for driving and executing the different workstreams, with a focus on business development and promotion, as a support to the Team Lead, as well as supporting the workstreams with market research, consulting, communication, and event & project management.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • University degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering or equivalent

  • 6-10 years of experience from business development in green transformation, with a good understanding and/or interest in e.g.

    • Smart cities and green buildings
    • Innovation and sustainable industry collaboration
    • Renewable power generation, smart grids and energy storage
    • E-mobility and alternative fuels
    • Sustainable industry
    • Circular economy, recycling and reuse
    • Collaboration with research infrastructures
    • Strong foothold within relevant American industries and good knowledge about project and funding opportunities
  • Interaction with external stakeholders, ideally both government and private sector

  • High-level proficiency in both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Swedish is a merit.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Strong desire to contribute and make a difference in sustainability and business

  • Thrive from work in cross-functional environments with multiple engagements at once

  • Team-player who is humble and enthusiastic for collaboration

  • Positive “can do attitude” and self-motivator

  • Experience from working in an international context
